The Regulation (EU) 2024/1787 on the reduction of methane emissions in the energy sector entered into force in August 2024. It aims to reduce methane emissions into the atmosphere, both in the EU and in our global supply chains, and to minimise methane leaks by fossil energy companies operating in the EU.
The EU Methane Regulation includes the accreditation of verifiers, and (accordingly) monitoring, reporting, and verification requirements.
EA is organising a workshop with the European Commission for National Accreditation Bodies in which the European Commission will provide an update on the implementation of the EU Methane Regulation and details on standards and technical prescriptions (and/or alternatives) relevant when accrediting verifiers.
Furthermore, NABs will share information/views on providing accreditation for verifiers wishing to verify methane emission reports in line with the EU Methane Regulation.
The online workshop will be held on 3 June 2026, 09:00 – 12:00 CEST.
On 20 May, the global metrology community celebrates World Metrology Day, marking the anniversary of the signature of the Metre Convention in 1875, the international agreement that established the foundation for global collaboration in measurement science.
