At their last meeting on 2 Octo-ber 2014 in Athens, Greece, a great majority of EA Inspection Committee’s members elected Tomas Holm, the SWEDAC representative, as their Vice-Chair.

Further to a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the Chalmers University of Technology in Göteborg, Sweden, Tomas Holm worked as a Quality Manager in Volvo Bus Corp. in Borås, before joining SWEDAC in 2009 at the Head of Division for Vehicle Inspection.

So far Tomas has been taking a most active part in the EA IC activities. In 2012, he largely contributed to the setting up of the EA IC Technical Network (TN) for Motor Vehicles (“Car”) Inspection, which he has been convening since then. As part of TN Car Inspection’s role, Tomas has been:
– paying careful attention to the development and implementation of EC Directive on Roadworthiness Tests approved by the EU Parliament on 11 March 2014;
– cooperating with CITA, the International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee, whose conferences he often attends as an EA representative to promote the benefits of accreditation;
– leading, in close collaboration with CITA, the revision of EA-5/02: EA Guidance on the Application of ISO/IEC 17020 in Periodic Inspection of the Roadworthiness of Motor Vehicles and their Trailers, whose revised draft is being out for comments within EA until 10 December 2014.

As the EA IC Vice-Chair, Tomas Holm’s additional task will consist in assisting the EA IC Chair, Rolf Straub from SAS, the Swiss NAB, in the daily management of the Committee. The Vice-Chair will notably assist the Chair in elaborating on the meeting agendas and coordinating cooperation work with ILAC, the European Commission and relevant stakeholders. The former might sometimes replace the latter in the chairing of a meeting (or parts of it), if needed.
