World Accreditation Day (WAD) – 9th June, as a global initiative jointly established by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), is also celebrated at the EA level to raise awareness of the importance of accreditation-related activities.

World Accreditation Day 2016 (Accreditation: A global tool to support Public Policy) focuses on the support accreditation delivers as a tool for all areas in the public sector – national and local government, regulators. Accreditation is a global tool that helps to address local, national and international needs for governments.

Standards, conformity assessment and accreditation are all market-based tools that can be used by Government policy makers to deliver better regulation, environmental protection, public safety, fraud prevention, fair and efficient markets and public trust.

Hence EA encourages its members to celebrate this day at national level in order to further promote the role and benefits of accreditation. With this end in view EA prepared a new brochure (ACCREDITATION A TOOL TO SUPPORT REGULATORS) aimed at explaining how advantages for regulators and governments result in benefits for businesses across all sectors by boosting efficiency, reducing controls and supporting export, protecting interests of consumers and creating trust.

To help explain the use of accredited conformity assessment, the website www.publicsectorassurance.org has been established to showcase different global examples where accreditation has been used to support public policy efforts. Each topic contains case studies of
how government and regulators have used accredited conformity assessment. If you want your story to be posted on the abovementioned website, please send an email at: iaf@iaf.nu or contact your local accreditation body.
