Technical Manager – Accreditation & EU Legislation

About EA
The European co-operation for Accreditation (EA) is the association of National Accreditation Bodies in Europe, recognized by the European Commission. EA plays a central role in ensuring that conformity assessment and accreditation support European legislation, policy, and the market.
We cooperate closely with the European Commission, European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and stakeholders in the public and private sectors to ensure the effective and harmonized application of accreditation across Europe.
The EA Secretariat is looking for a new member of staff to be the Technical Manager in response to the need to reinforce the Secretariat’s technical resources to meet the expectations from policymakers, the market and EA itself.

Key Responsibilities
As Technical Manager, you will provide expert technical support to the EA Secretariat, European Commission, and EA members on accreditation and conformity assessment in relation to EU legislation.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as a technical resource for the EA Secretariat, Committees, and members, mainly in relation to EU legislation.
  • Being the EA Secretariat point of contact for its members, the European Commission/policymakers and stakeholders on technical issues.
  • Supporting the Executive Secretary and other EA officers in the discussions with the European Commission services (DGs and Agencies) on the role of accreditation in legislation.
  • Analysing new and existing EU legislation, identifying relevant issues, and proposing interpretations or areas for discussion.
  • Providing timely responses to questions and requests from European Commission officials and stakeholders, often on short notice.
  • Participating in the relevant Technical Committee (TC) meetings to maintain expertise and contribute to discussions.
  • Coordinating with the EA Communications Manager for the promotion and public information on EA technical activities.
  • Ensuring EA’s positions are technically sound, impartial, and aligned with accreditation rules and international standards.

Profile & Requirements
The successful candidate will bring:

  • experience in the operation of a National Accreditation Body,
  • experience regarding the accreditation of bodies in regulated sectors, including bodies seeking notification,
  • knowledge of the role of accreditation in the EU policy.

The successful candidate will be/have

  • very responsive and available to answer questions of the European Commission / DGs on accreditation issues regarding new and existing legislations,
  • capable to analyse new legislation and identify problems and areas which need interpretations and discussion in the field of accreditation,
  • knowledge in the evaluation of sector schemes (EA-1/22 EA Procedure and Criteria for the Evaluation of Conformity Assessment Schemes by EA Accreditation Body Members),
  • knowledge on activities and decisions of the EA Technical Committees,
  • capacity to work independently while maintaining close cooperation with the Secretariat team,
  • very good (English) communication and social skills.

Most of the activities will take place in Brussels. The position requires to work from Brussels preferably.
Regular travelling to Paris (France) where the EA Secretariat is established will also be required.
