On 9 June 2026, EA joins the global accreditation community in celebrating World Accreditation Day. This year’s theme, “Innovation, Trust and Sustainability: The Power of Accreditation”, highlights the essential role accreditation plays in supporting confidence in products, services, systems and claims in a rapidly evolving world.
In increasingly complex markets, trust is essential. Accreditation provides independent assurance that Conformity Assessment Bodies, such as laboratories, inspection bodies, certification bodies, validation and verification bodies, are competent, impartial, and reliable. It enables regulators, businesses, and citizens to rely on test reports, certificates, inspections, and verifications without having to question them again.
Accreditation also supports innovation. New technologies, digital solutions, and emerging services need reliable frameworks to develop safely and demonstrate that they are fit for purpose. This is particularly relevant in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and digital transformation, where accredited conformity assessment helps create a common language of standards and supports harmonised implementation across Europe.
Sustainability is another key pillar of this year’s theme. As environmental and social claims become increasingly important, they must be credible, consistent, and verifiable. Recent EA activities with the European Commission, covering areas such as the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), methane emissions reduction, the Carbon Removals and Carbon Farming Regulation (CRCF), machinery and lift safety, and cybersecurity certification, illustrate how accreditation provides solutions to today’s policy and market challenges. In all these areas, accreditation helps ensure that conformity assessment delivers confidence, supports fair competition, and strengthens the implementation of European legislation.
Innovation, trust, and sustainability show that accreditation is much more than a technical activity. It is a key enabler for a well-functioning society and economy, helping businesses grow with confidence, supporting regulators in achieving policy objectives, and giving citizens assurance in the products, services, and systems they rely on every day.
