On World Standards Day 2025, CEN, CENELEC, EA, EURAMET, EUROLAB, PROSAFE and WELMEC come together to celebrate the vital role of partnerships in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This year’s theme, “Partnerships for the Goals” (SDG 17), highlights how collaboration is the key driver for progress across all other goals.
In Europe, this spirit of cooperation is embodied by the European Quality Infrastructure Network (EQIN). Bringing together the seven Regional Quality Infrastructure Organizations, EQIN unites expertise across the five essential pillars of Quality Infrastructure: standardization, metrology, accreditation, conformity assessment, and legal metrology. By pooling their strengths, the members of EQIN ensure trust in products and services, safeguard consumers, and support businesses in thriving within the Single Market and globally.
Standards are at the heart of this effort. They are not just technical documents, but the outcome of partnerships between experts, industry, policymakers, and civil society. By providing a shared language, standards enable innovation, competitiveness, and resilience – helping Europe respond to global challenges such as the green and digital transitions.
Today, the members of EQIN reaffirm their joint commitment to building a sustainable and resilient future for Europe. Through strengthened partnerships, they will continue to uphold the highest standards of quality, safety, and reliability – for the benefit of citizens, businesses, and society as a whole.
Quotes from participating organizations:
CEN and CENELEC: “Partnerships are at the heart of everything we do. On World Standards Day 2025, we reaffirm our commitment to SDG 17 –Partnerships for the Goals. Standards are built through collaboration, creating the trust and common language needed to drive innovation, support Europe’s businesses, and tackle global challenges including the green and digital transitions. Together, we build a sustainable and
resilient future.”
EURAMET: “As the European Association of National Metrology Institutes, we are proud to contribute to the EQIN by advancing accuracy and harmonization across borders. Partnerships are essential to ensure that measurement science continues to support sustainability, digital transformation, and the wellbeing of society. We reaffirm our commitment to collaboration as the key to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. On this World Standards Day, EURAMET does not only emphasize the importance of standards but also sheds light on how metrology underpins standardization.”
EUROLAB: “As a European organization representing conformity assessment bodies, we are delighted to work together with other partners in building the important pillar represented by conformity assessment in the European Quality Infrastructure Network. This collaboration is key in developing strong partnerships for a wide representation of the entire sector while providing valuable contributions to a sustainable and innovative quality infrastructure in Europe. On World Standards Day, EUROLAB joins the standardization community in highlighting the important role that standards have in enabling a safe, reliable and efficient ecosystem. Quality is the fulfilment of specified requirements. For this, we need requirements given in standards and verification of the fulfilment done through conformity assessment.”
European co-operation for Accreditation (EA): “Accreditation relies on European and international standards to demonstrate the impartiality and competence of Conformity Assessment Bodies, and that conformity assessment results are reliable, supporting Europe’s Single Market and the green and digital transitions, as well as Sustainable Development Goals. On World Standards Day, EA joins the EQIN in celebrating the vital role of standards in enabling trust, supporting competitiveness, and driving sustainable development across Europe and worldwide”.
PROSAFE: “Market surveillance happens in the background, but its benefits are visible to all. Every safe and compliant product sold in the EU is a win for consumers, businesses, and our climate. Through EU-funded joint actions like EEPLIANT4, PROSAFE and national authorities ensure that products across Europe meet energy labelling and ecodesign requirements. When Europe acts united, the market responds positively. On World Standards Day 2025, we reaffirm that cooperation across all Quality Infrastructure pillars is key to a safer and more compliant Single Market.”
WELMEC: “We see legal metrology as an essential bridge between innovation and regulation. Through partnership within EQIN, we can strengthen measurement integrity, fairness in trade, and consumer protection across Europe”.
