Question 50.2 ISO/IEC 17021-1 cl. 9.4.5.1 Nonconformities during an audit

Background: At the end of an audit, some CBs for MS do not give the nonconformities in written form.

Question: Is it acceptable that the auditor provides the nonconformities only orally at the closing meeting and submits them some days later in written form?

September 2025

It is noted that having the NCs in written form at the closing meeting is the most effective way for a CB to demonstrate compliance to 9.4.7.1 and 9.4.7.2 b, c and d of ISO/IEC 17021-1. However, no formal requirement is in place for presenting nonconformities in a written way during closing meeting. In cases where NCs are not presented in a written form at the closing meeting, the CAB still needs to demonstrate that requirements of 9.4.5.3, 9.4.7.1 and 9.4.7.2 b, c and d are fulfilled.
